This episode was almost entirely unprepared, other than a submission from John Moore that took most of the second hour – once again, he had Claude write a story that puts HKC Radio broadcasters, friends…and one nuisance…On ‘The Voyage’ at Holiday World. It’s lengthy, but due to the dearth of prepared content this week, Nick and Bob, and the listeners, chose to air it in its entirety. The day before this episode aired was the 30th anniversary of the first computer Nick ever called his own. Nick tells the story, as do listeners with similar stories. Nick made his annual visit to his old Middle School, and he has recordings, including one where a kid successfully broke him. Jayson Smith submitted some audio of his younger self, which caused Nick and bob’s younger selves to play – yes, some of the speech synthesis comedy types will know what this is. With their appearance in the NBA finals, a lot of this episode is dedicated to that in the Domain’s way, including an imagining of the Legion of Dumb trying to celebrate Nick’s birthday around Nicks and Knicks – except Nick is not a Knicks fan. What happened at the homestead that has never happened before? And what unusual thing will happen? Katie submits an intriguing musical performance which she was involved in, playing viola. You hear the starting lineups of game 3 of the NBA finals, so that Bob can hear what Madison Square Garden sounds like. Three days before Nick turns 37, this is a retrospective episode for most of its time. To start with, Jayson talks about the days on which the show would’ve been held on Nick’s actual birthday, a rarity in Digital Domain history. But that lead directly to some unusually frank retrospection about internet radio as a whole, including some of the interpersonal relationships that didn’t go so well. After that, and a brief digression to a 34-year-old song parody Nick wondered if Bob remembered, the main topic of conversation was a more fun retrospective. With the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs about to embark on an NBA Finals rematch of 1999, Nick wondered what this show would be like had it took place in 1999. A lot of retrospective talk about music and technology ensued, and Alex submitted an incredibly accurate, period-correct imagining of what Suno would be like had it been a 90s invention. Finally, Damon Fibraio is back for the first time in a long time. What’s kept him away? …Put it this way, don’t eat anything during his call – it’s medical comedy. Another week, another show…This one with a diminished Nick owing to his suffering of a migraine throughout the weekend into Monday. However, the gang had some fun regardless. John Moore sent a timely roundup of CBS News Radio bloopers which even had low energy Nick busting a gut laughing. Various airline incidents and news stories have Bob wanting to relive Nick’s favorite produced bit of all time, in which Evil Barney is a flight attendant. The most important moment in New York Islanders history occurred 46 years ago on May 24, and Derek has done his best to restore an oddly poor-quality radio call.
